About Dr. Anthony Gonzalez
Dr. Anthony Gonzalez, M.D., FACS, FASMBS, DABOM is a nationally recognized general, robotic, and bariatric surgeon serving as Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Baptist Health South Florida and Chief of Surgery at Baptist Hospital of Miami. A graduate of the University of Miami with Alpha Omega Alpha honors and Research Distinction, he has performed more than 6,000 robotic procedures and is considered a pioneer in advanced robotic hernia and bariatric surgery techniques.
Dr. Gonzalez is the Founding Program Director of the Baptist Health Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship, where he has trained surgeons from across the country in advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgery since 2010. He is also an Associate Professor of Surgery at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals.
Deeply committed to service, Dr. Gonzalez leads humanitarian surgical missions throughout Haiti and Latin America and helped develop Baptist Health’s BRIDGE Program supporting employment opportunities for young adults with unique abilities. He and his wife, Dorcas, are passionate advocates for families affected by autism and Fragile X syndrome.
