Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery is a medical treatment designed to help people with obesity lose weight and improve their health when diet and exercise alone have not been successful.

How does the surgery work?

  • Helping you feel full sooner
  • Reducing how much food you can eat
  • Improving how your body processes food

Bariatric surgery is not a cosmetic procedure — it is a tool to support long-term weight loss and better health, used alongside healthy lifestyle changes.

Why is Bariatric Surgery done?

Excess weight can increase the risk of serious health problems, including:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Sleep apnea
  • Joint pain
  • Acid reflux

Bariatric surgery can help reduce or improve many of these conditions while supporting sustainable weight loss.

• Removes the hunger hormone (ghrelin)
2
• Creates a smaller stomach pouch and reroutes digestion to the small intestine
• Helps with weight loss and improves metabolism
• No stomach nor intestine removed
• Better improvement/ cure of Diabetes
3
• Corrects or updates a previous weight-loss surgery

Sleeve gastrectomy takes 30-40 minutes. Gastric bypass takes 1 hour (60 minutes). Revision surgical time varies depending on what needs to be done. Please ask Dr. Gonzalez when you meet with him in the office.
